Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Stripers at river mouth

26 May 2009

There were schoolie bass feeding on sand eels and chasing them to the surface yesterday! Active feeding in the "cooler" water at the mouth is still another good sign of things to come for the 2009 season!

I had to work harder to find and hold mackerel yesterday too. I had to try, so I quickly put out a mack under a float and the fun began!! A good sized bass sucked it down and ran. unfortunately the hook pulled but thats okay. Friday, after the weather settles down, I'll be back out, better prepared, to play with the first few big fish of the year!

Good fishing
