Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > More good news!

28 May 2010

I went out this morning for a quick trip to check out the river. Guys were catching schoolies (that I saw) on artificials but I wanted to try live mackerel for the first time this year. Macks are still easy to find and i just missed a very nice Moby Bass outside under a float. I came back into the river for a couple of "almost" keepers and a couple of the "real deals"! best bass was 40"s, released.

Since the tide was less than perfect to drift any longer, I trolled for a short time. I had one hit but the amount of line I dumped and never turned the fish was surprising and will haunt me for a while.

The striped Bass season has truly begun!!

Good fishing
