Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > August is behind us!

3 Sep 2010

August will go down as a less than stellar month for fishing! There were some bright spots with better bass but nothing like last years big fish in the river. With bright, sunny sky's comes warmer water and bass are not tropical types.

The past week has brought in VERY GOOD bluefish catching! I've gone from 1 or 2 a trip to 14 to 25 and as many as 50 released at the boat! This does not count the "Palm Beach Catch & Release" fish. You know, the "it was on for 2 minutes, so I'll count it" fish.

The water temps on the way home yesterday (2:00 PM) were 72 ocean side and 77 at the dock but I expect that to change dramatically after Earl passes and we can get back to fishing next Monday or Tuesday. There is a lot of bait out there and I'm looking forward to a great September!

Good fishing
