Stripers have been arriving in "waves" for a while now. Reports of fish, some 36-44"s, surface but the next day they are nowhere to be found! "You should have been here yesterday" has been very true for this captain as well as many others. This is why I do not book charters until June.
The good news is that there are more and more fish settling in to stay and feed for a few days! Yesterday while scouting, I picked up 14 stripers from 20-26"s. My friend found more and 2 were keepers. Today we were about even but I found (and released) 2 keepers! IT"S STARTING!!!!
I am still looking for my first mackerel of the season. Last year on this date the water temps were 59 degrees 3-4 miles out. Today the water temps were 49!! With this warm weather and less wind, we should have macks in close very soon. Then we can start catching the big girls!!
Good fishing
