Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. >
Good fishing continues
26 Jun 2012
The fishing has continued to impress for the past 2 weeks since my last report. My clients have been pulling on 30"- 34" stripers every day until the 24th. Laura brought in a nice 38" striper! I do not know if the big fish are following the schools of pogy's that are at the mouth of the river, but it was nice to finally see one that size.
Bait has been a challenge with more bluefish showing and chasing it around. I've had a few "bite offs" and 2 to the boat but still have not landed one. I am in bass mode and they do chew through 30# test leaded quickly.
If you are getting tired of the crowd at the mouth of the river. There have been some impressive surface feeds off the beach front! Not a predictable fishery but well worth it if you are the boat to come up on one and have it to yourself!!!
There is still a lot of quality striper fishing to come in July so stay tuned!!
Good fishing
Capt. Scott
