Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Bluefish have arrived.

30 Aug 2013

It had to happen and frankly I was beginning to miss them, the bluefish have arrived! I went out this morning to scout out what was happening for my next few days of charters. My friend Bob said a fisherman beside him ask how a striper could bite off the end of his eel? Hearing that I pulled out the trolling gear and landed 9 bluefish and 7 stripers in about 3 hours. The blues were small to medium and the stripers were medium to keeper so it was a great morning! I also drifted the mouth with mackerel and picked up a striper & saw others caught.

This has been an amazing year for fishing the Merrimack. The end is in sight but we have 4-5 solid weeks to fish so get out there! Beside the great fishing there will be loons, mola mola (ocean sunfish) & sturgeon free jumping to see while we hunt for the next bite or see the next feeding frenzy!

Good fishing
