March is less than a week away, it is going to be 60 degrees today and I have spring fever BAD!! It really started while I was getting ready for my seminar at the New England Fishing & Outdoor Expo. I probably changed the slides 1 or 2 times a day in the week before the presentation. I spent way to much time reliving in the memories of the past season and calculating my next seasons strategies. Then I went to the Boston Boat Show. I looked around and bought a new Yamaha F150XB for Summer Job :)) It will be installed in early April and then the days will really drag out until I can get her in the water in the first part of May.
Last year I was in the water on May 4th. It was a shake down trip but there is a State Law (really there is!) that says you need to bring a fishing pole at all times. I did not catch but the water temps were really close and I knew the schoolies would be in any day. I went to Florida to visit my family, got out again on May 10th and the fun began! Within a few days you could go out to catch & release 30-50 schoolies per person, at will!!
Last year we were calling the new influx of schoolies Micro Bass because many were 101/2" to 13"s long. I'm hoping for a new crop of fish the same size but last years micro's should be this years teenagers and that will be a lot more fun!! Also think about all of those 26" to 27 3/4" stripers last year that were just sub legal! A one inch growth is not out of the question so just think of the possibilities!!
Have faith my fellow fishing addicts. The season is getting closer by the day and we have to have all of our gear ready to catch (and release) more stripers than in 2016!
Good fishing
