Busman's Holiday

May 23, 2013

I went on a "Busman's Holiday" with my friend Paul Rogato of Ocean Lures yesterday and the fishing was the best I've seen this year! Yes it was cold but the rain had stopped, the wind was lying down and there were fish!

We were using the new Surface Swimmer and we were able to pull several "keeper" sized bass out of the schools of small to medium stripers. I've been using a lot of "rubber" baits recently and while I'm sure we could have caught more fish using small plastic, we caught better bass on the Ocean Lures! It was fun!

The mackerel are in! They have been "outside" for a while but I caught them in 75' of water two days ago and they were at Breaking Rock yesterday. With the bigger bait closer to shore, the better bass will be filling in and soon they will be setting up shop in the mouth of the Merrimack River. A charter buddy did catch one drifting yesterday while scouting for future trips. They will be filling in more every day so get out there and fish!

Good fishing
