Merrimack River Report > Nice run of stripers
Nice run of stripers

Jul 2, 2014

The season has taken a nice turn for the better! We certainly have had our slow improvements and then declines but the nice weather seems to have brought the water temps up and the big girls in. The herring are mostly out of the rivers now so the better bass have come back down river too. Now we have had several reports of pogies just south of us and that could be real good news for big fish! I know of one 40" bass that was caught that had a full sized pogy in her gut! That and the huge population of sand eels in our area should hold the fish here for a while.

I have started seeing surface feeds again off the beaches. Not real big fish but an awful lot of fun and a good sign of things to come!!

The mackerel have been out in 80-90'+ water and there are confirmed reports of big fish being caught out in deep water too! Not may yet but this is something we did not see last year. Just remember to stay with in the 3 mile line or you will be fishing illegally!

I've posted a few new photos of fish caught in the past week. Check them out and please give me a call. I'm sure I can find a few more for you too!!

Good fishing
