The wind pulled a little surprise on us this morning and I had to cancel. Gusty wind & 3-5' waves are no fun so I've been playing catch up on my web site. I've posted many (sorry, not all) photo's from this season so far. As most know by now this is the second season in a row of some challenging fishing. I'm not saying there are no fish but that we were so spoiled in the past, it truly was catching, not fishing.
There was a dry spell a few days ago, hardly a keeper to be found, but we seem to have a new batch of fish in the river again. The mackerel are in summer mode too. If you need fresh bait & lots of it, you need to get out early & go deep. I've been leaving the dock @ 6:30 and going out to 90 to 140 feet of water and chumming hard! Some days they are in as close as 75' but I do not take any chances. If you're late, you may only get 8-10 baits or none at all.
There have been some nice bass around. I had a run of seeing if not landing one "jumbo" per trip for a while. If you have seen the difference in size between a 28" legal fish and a 38" bass, you know what I mean by jumbo. The 38" fish looks like it could eat the other. Best fish in the boat to date is 29 pounds, 42's. Yes I know that somebody's friends, cousins, uncle has caught way more & bigger than that but I'm talking client caught fish and I'm proud of every one of them!
Summers is going by fast, if you want to catch a striper you need to get out there!!
Good fishing
