Great fishing in the Merrimack!
Jul 13, 2016
We have been having a pretty good year. It is not as consistent as I would like to see but there are good fish around. We had a bad string of hard North to East wind that all but shut us down. But that has past and those east winds brought the bait back in close and the stripers turned on! The herring are still in the river plus there were "tack" mackerel in the river for a couple of days. This combination brought on a few nice surface feeds. Many of the fish were 24" to 27"s but a few big girls were in the mix too! A well placed tinker mackerel was just to tempting for many a striper as well.
For those who have been missing bluefish, there is hope this year. There are a few, large and small, fish at the mouth around low & high tide. I've even heard of "bite offs" at Emerson Rocks. A few days ago a client landed a 34" blue on a fluorocarbon leader/ circle hook rig in the mouth of the river. They have been reported off the old Polio Camp this week as well. So it might be time for a little trolling :))
I just posted a few more photo's so check them out!
Good fishing
