Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > 1st week in July

5 Jul 2008

I'm sorry! I do sound like a broken record, but we really do still have mackerel for fresh bait and it is very good! The wind finally died down so on 6-29-08 I got to take 2 gentlemen from the Atlanta area fishing. They had canceled plans to fish Saco Bay ME. because there are no fish there. I said the wind had calmed, but the seas were still a bit challenging. Mark fought through sea sickness to land the big fish of the day  a 40" 20# beauty. Fred and Mark caught 78 striped bass in one day with 8 better bass, all released!

On 6-30-08 I participated in a Team Charter to accomidate a group of 8 guys. Snotty seas but they could fish and brought it over 50 stripers. With 5 for the grill.

On 7-3-09 I hosted Rich & Elizabeth Boulanger. This father daughter team have been fishing as an annual "date" since 2003. The wind came back but we managed several bass with 2 for the grill for the 4th of July family gathering! No bluefish yet which was to bad because they do love them too.
