It was an unusually warm day Friday and my son in law Mark & I went fishing. After getting a few "livies" we went out about 3 miles and started chumming. Wham! A hard hit, screaming drag and the games have begun! After a 10 minute fight, a nice 15 pound bonito comes to the boat and is released. "Trash fish", the guide says. After an hour of constant, hard fighting bonito, we moved into deeper water to "avoid" these guys to find our targeted species. More chum, an hour goes by, more chum and suddenly a 10' hammerhead is right up to the boat and eating our chum!! THIS will get your heart pumping!! Next thing you know, Mark says he saw something jumping and his line goes tight! This would be the first of five landed mahi mahi! Dinner and our pride intact, we head in after the first trip of the season!
Sorry, yes it was Florida, but everyone needs a first trip of the season and mine is in FLA where my daughter and two "rotten" grand daughters live. But our turn is coming "up north"!! The water temp is up to 46.7 and we only need three more degrees and the striped bass will arrive. Eight more degrees and they will start feeding aggressively!
Summer Job is waxed, rigged and ready to start the season. All we need is a little warmer water and an open marina to start fishing!!
