Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Mackerel are in! More "keepers".

22 May 2009

Yesterday, after going to a proven area, that had macks the day before, I worked hard to find 7 mackerel! Not what I was hoping for!!!!! But TODAY they were in and I got a good start on my summer supply of bait! Once the blues come in, the macks leave and I've been caught before without a good supply of bait!

I also saw more 16"-20" schoolies chasing bait on the surface! A very good sign for fun now and keepers later!

One last thing. While anchored up to chat with an old fishing friend I did what any crazed fisherman would do, I but a bait in water. There are more fish in the river than there seem to be if you are only casting plugs!

Good fishing
