Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Rain & wind PLEASE go away!

23 Jun 2009

I literally start counting the days until June the day I pull my boat out for the season! Now I cannot get on the water! My last charter was Saturday with The Shadallah gang! This was Steve's 2nd trip of the season and he wanted to get the nephews into some fish. After canceling Friday, I did get out Saturday but the rollers in the mouth of the Merrimack made it imposable to safely fish. With a combination of drift fishing, anchoring and finally, trolling we got the job done! Bobby and Bradley both caught and released several striper's with Bobby getting top honors, a nice, fat, 32" striper that he proudly took home for dinner!

It is now Tuesday and I'm canceling charters daily due to the Nor'Easter that is still churning off shore. My next probable trip will be Thursday. I hate canceling trips almost as much as I hate not catching fish but the mouth of the river is a dangerous as I've ever seen it and safety is more important that fishing.
