Well didn't this turn out to be a funky week! Sunday thru Tuesday's charters were scrubbed due to weather. Frankly Wednesday would have been but the clients were tired of being house bound and braved the weather. After a slow start they caught & released several sub legal striper's but were rewarded with 2 for "the feast". 86 year old Dick Carlson landed the best fish just to show "the kids" how it was done!
Thursday Dick Crosbie hosted his nephew Richie from Michigan. We found a pile of mackerel at my favorite bait spot and brought them back to the river to make new friends. Mr Bluefish was in residence and made short work of many a bait and bit off way to many circle hooks! But we fished through the blues and found some nice fat bass to 35"s.
Friday we were scratching around looking for fish. After the new rain and a down pour (almost 1/2 inch) in the morning we were off. The swell in the mouth of the river is still big from last weeks storm but we picked up s few fish. At low tide we went out & found a few pollock for bait, no mackerel to be found, and it was a good thing because a live bait got tonights dinner for my clients.
I heard on the weather tonight that this is the cloudiest and coolest June in history. That has been a factor in this months fishing but I still have had more "Keeper" striped bass in the boat than last year. Last year was one of the best years I've ever had. I will not complain about the weather, to much!
Good fishing
