Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > The weathers bad but the fishing is good!

2 Jul 2009

We can sit at home and complain about the weather or bring rain gear and FISH! Welcome to my world for the month of June and now July. If you look at the photos below, a lookout is important but RADAR is even more so with all this fog. The picture on the right was deemed "good enough" and we got out of the rollers before they got nasty.

There has been more "live bait" available this week, the water temps have cooled and most of the bluefish seem to only be at the mouth of the river. With plenty of fresh bait ( some for the bass, some to sacrifice to the bluefish) we have been able to pick up more than our share of better bass. I have also donated more than my share of hooks to the bluefish because I do not feel I will catch as many stripers using steel leaders.

Check out the new photos form last week on the PHOTO ALBUM 2009  page. If you are tired of being trapped inside by the weather, give me a call and we will catch a few fish!
