Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Getting better

21 May 2010

Yesterday (Thursday) I went out and caught a quick 6 striped bass and thought, this is more like it! The fishing was definitely improving. I could have stayed and caught more but moved outside looking for mackerel. Unfortunately I should have quit while I was ahead. 2 1/2 hours later I had ONE mack to show for my efforts.

Today (Friday) I was greeted by a breezy north easterly wind than was fishible but unpleasant. I'm not sure what happened to the easy fish, I found several but they were definitely harder to convince to eat that yesterday. My friend went out for mackerel and did 100% better than I did yesterday, he got TWO!

The mackerel were in thick by May 22 last year. I'm hoping that the east wind will blow them in.

Good fishing
