On Thursday the 19th, the sun actually showed it's face for at least 15 minutes!!! That in itself is noteworthy this spring but I also caught my first stripers of the season.

Interestingly enough, it was within a day of my first fish last year. We all remember how warm & nice it was last spring and all thought it would be an early fishing season as well. NOT! This cold and damp spring we/ I were getting nervous that the fish would be arriving later. I am pleased to say my thinking was incorrect.

I caught several fish from 18" to 25"s. Oddly enough I was the happiest to see the 18" fish! Nice to see some smaller fish around again to balance out the stock.

All of the fish I caught were above Joppa Flats as the wind made it difficult to find them on the flats and it was to late in the tide to fish the Coast Guard Sand Bar.

I will be out again this afternoon to find more but now I will be thinking about the next milestone of my fishing year, Mackerel! They usually arrive in numbers around the 23rd. I know they are at the Cape and Boston Harbor so it looks like they are right on time too.

Good fishing
