Full moons are great if you fish at night but I do not do that on charters. This month's moon was the 15th and the bass must be feeding at night because they are very picky during the day. Obviously they will eat a well presented bait, preferably a live one, but they also grab & drop or pick it up so timidly the clients are not sure if it is a fish or bottom. But when "bottom" peals off 30 yards of line there is not question what is on the end of the line.
Also the mackerel are harder to find or keep in the chum slick. I saw 3 big bass chasing them 2 days ago and yesterday my friend had a bait fish chopped in half! Yes, there was at least one bluefish in the Merrimack River on Thursday. Not uncommon but that would contribute to the mackerels' skiddish behavior. I hope that it was just a scout and the rest of his friends are still in Boston Harbor!
Check out the 2011 Photo's page. There are some very nice bass around!
Good fishing
