The bluefish have arrived with the warmer water. I was out today and it was running 69-70 degrees outside of the influence of the river. Blues were in the river mouth and down the front of Plum Island! My clients landed 19 bluefish (they also "dropped" several by letting the line go slack beside the boat, easy quick release!) and 1 keeper bass while trolling. I did not see any surface feeds but it is only a matter of time!
I did hear of a quick showing of football Tunas in 60' of water off High Sandy just a few days ago!!! Feeding on bluefish??
The mackerel have fled the area for now so that is the end of live lining for bass for a few weeks.
If you like to catch hard fighting fish, bluefish are the ticket and there is always a good shot at a keeper or two in the mix for dinner!
Good fishing
