Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Just about to blow wide open!

6 May 2012

There are stripers being caught up and down the river on a daily basis. You just have to put in your time and be there when those small schools of fish swim past your favorite piece of real estate! It is not wide open fishing and it could be the boat next to you that gets one, but for a winter weary angler it is something.
In 2006 I caught my first striper on May 5th. I went out yesterday and really thought I would see my fish, but no joy. Normally I find fish between May 9 to 12 so any day now the magic will work!
I have to confess that I do not have to patience to sit & wait, I am a hunter of fish. I will cast or troll through my "early fish" spots and move on. For me a single keeper is not great fishing but a good start. I need to be able to find them daily for my season to officially begin.
But any day now it is going to start to be fun.................
Good fishing
