Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > July fishing is very good!

18 Jul 2012

July 2012 has been very good to Summer Job! With the exception of 2 days when the pros had a hard time finding bait due to bluefish, this could have been June fishing, only warmer! If I had a dollar for every day in June that I fished in rain gear & long underwear, I could take a few days off!

Yesterday I took Dick Crosbie's party out. We found plenty of mackerel. In fact  the guys were having so much fun I stocked up extra for chum! Then we went hunting for stripers. At the end of the trip, we had fished in 3 different zones and caught 14 bass from 29"s to 36"s. Not bad considering 2 of the guys had never caught a striper before yesterday!

The bluefish have been in & out this month. I hear the guys on the 3 mile line talking about bite offs or catching blues but I've only gotten 4 fish and maybe 6-8 bite offs to date. The water is warmer out 3 miles and I hope they stay out there for a while longer.

The fishing is great and it is a lot more comfortable in a boat than at work on a hot day!

Good fishing
