I tried to fish on a family trip yesterday but it was a late start and by the time we got out the wind was picking up. There was a lot of bird activity outside the mouth so I made a quick trip out, picked off a keeper and got my wife in before the wind whipped spray got her soaked!
Today was a different day entirely! Nice and calm, early start and the mackerel were all but jumping in the boat! I went back for my first Live Lining effort of the year with the macks and we have stripers!! I was prospecting for my first charter on Thursday so I jumped around and there were fish everywhere I stopped. I only fished outside of the river, no inside drifts today. Given the "run & gun" type of fishing I was doing I was very happy with several medium bass and 6 keepers from 291/2 to 33"s!
There was plenty of bird activity to guide you to the fish and there came a point where they stopped hitting the mackerel. I guess they were just to keyed in on the sand eels. So I took a few casts with my new Ocean Lures swimming bait fish and picked up a few more stripers! My new favorite plug to be sure!
It's hard to get a good photo when you are fishing alone but here are 2 fish from today!
Good fishing
