Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Finally turned a corner!

23 Jun 2015

We seem to have finally turned the corner on the 2015 fishing season! Yesterday there were lot's of 22" to 27" stripers at the mouth through out the tide. Not just the end of the tide! Today I found the same thing but with several health keepers in the mix as well!!!! We do not have to kill every fish that we legally can take, but a fresh fish for dinner now & then sure is nice!

Mackerel yesterday were so plentiful just beyond the #2 nun that you did not even need chum to fill the bait well. Today they were a little harder to find. In my search I did see several harbor porpoise that could explain the macks moving around. Nothing likes to be lunch. The porpoise will probably move on and the macks will settle back to their normal haunts.

It's time to get out there!

Good fishing
