Merrimack River Fishing Reports, Plum Island area,, Newburyport MA. > Mackerel are in! Sort of...

25 May 2016

I got a late start today and missed the surface feeds that folks were talking about at the dock. I made it out to deep water at the "crack of 11:00" and started chumming. Second spot I had a tinker right off and then a slow series of fish for about an hour. 40 plus macks on my first day, I felt pretty good!

I live lined a tinker on my way in the mouth & caught a 23" striper! My buddy Pete called so we jumped around the river for a while and ended up with 8 fish. All between 23"s to 27"s. Not monsters but far better than the micro bass I have been catching to date :))

So first macks and first live lined bass on May 25th. Outstanding!!

Guess I'll have to go out & do it again tomorrow.

Good fishing
