Merrimack River Report > I found them!
I found them!

May 15, 2013

I just got home from a visit in Florida and had to get out there to see what was happening! The tide was low at 9:17 which made my normal "up river" spots un-fishable. I headed down stream and found surface feeds!! Not long frothing water feeds but medium sized bass hitting herring. You had to earn them but a 25" striper on a trout rod is a beautiful thing in May!
The fish were in the channel and stopped feeding when the tide slowed. I checked out the Coast Guard Sand Bar but did not find any bass so I moved out to the mouth. Lots of bird action but nothing feeding under them that I could see or temp with a jig. I then cruised south as far as High Sandy. I discovered one of my honey holes is gone but saw no action. I went back in the river, the tide had turned and the fish were feeding again.
This is classic, chilly, windy spring fishing but to a fish starved angler, it was heaven!! The water temps are coming up and the fish will fill in more & more every day. I would say the the 2013 fishing season has begun!!!
Good fishing
