Best August fishing since 2009

Aug 8, 2013

We are now into the second week of August and the striper fishing is as good as I've seen it since 2009! The water temps have come down a bit from the 7 day heat wave and there are no bluefish to speak of so the mackerel are in very good supply. I have been finding the macks in deep water just before or over the 3 mile line. It seems to be an early morning bite but stronger than at Breaking Rock. It also requires plenty of chum. I can also say that these macks are good sized and you will go through 1 or 2 sabiki's a day if you do not have the stronger rigs.

The bass have been under the birds or in the river. My last few charters have had many "keepers" (not all "Keepers" are killed, but released) per trip and of those 3-6 per day have been "market" sized or 34"s and better. Again, I have not seen fishing like this since 2009.

Sorry this is short, but my grand daughters just arrived and I'm going to visit with them!

Good fishing
