More Mackerel, first Keepers!

May 26, 2014

Last Saturday & was treated to my first solid catch of mackerel! it was not as easy as it will be but I managed 50 to fish with & start filling my freezer. It was a nice mix of tinkers, mediums and a few "ponies" (almost big enough to saddle & ride:)).

I have said it many times; it takes a week for the stripers to convert from small baits to macks, well I was wrong! I picked up several stripers on tinkers and 2 were "keeper" sized which I released. Keepers are for customers...............

Sunday it was not as good, I tried but the macks were harder to find and I only picked up 1 25" striper. They were back to their normal pattern of small bait. My friends & I all experienced the same thing, a quick "peck and drop". We would pull in a mangled bait, but no bass.

Just think about how great it will be next weekend!!!

Good fishing
