Mother Nature can be fickle at times and she has been playing with us for the past week. When I got my first good number of macks and caught the first 2 keepers on the same day, I thought we were golden!!! But it got cold again and the macks went away. Yesterday (Sunday) and today I got into mackerel again! We are talking starting to fill the freezer good. Today I also had a good striper (36" +) come to the boat, eat my mackerel on a sabiki rig & take off!! I held onto it for a while, even got it to surface before the tiny hooks pulled. I would have let it go anyway but it sure would have been nice to get a picture!!
My buddy Pete also had a good striper follow a bait to the boat while mackerel fishing last Sunday so I'm thinking we are finally getting this season underway!
There have also been four keepers caught on Joppa in the last couple of days. I know the guys that caught them, no rumors told here.
Given the warm weather all week and the good morning tides, I think this weekend should be great!
