Bluefish seem to be here to stay

Aug 28, 2014

The blues have been around for the past 10 days. It has been hit or miss but if you put your time in and/or keep track of them, it can be good fishing. Today was a "good day" (15 in the boat, then released) as was last Monday. I caught blues until I really, really needed to go home. Other days it is 4-5 or as many as 7 and once it was a complete bust! We have all heard stories of 12-15 pounders that shrink when a scale surfaces. Many of the fish I have handled were 10#s and one scaled in at 13 1/2#s! That was one mean alligator!

I have only had one day that I could catch them on surface plugs. They were real spooky and I caught them on an Ocean Lures swimming bait fish. I use white for bass & blues.

Needless to say the mackerel have vanished until the blues move on. When that happens I have a few beaches I want to troll with bridled baits. The better bass were just starting to show again and the bait disappeared! Mid September should be fun!
