Better Bass are showing up!

Jun 19, 2015

I have not posted recently because every time I did, the fish would make a lier out of me! The mackerel are here! Now they're not, etc..... All in all it has been a trying early fishing season. We seem to be running 2-3 weeks late but the water temps are finally coming up and the fishing is getting more consistent. The mackerel are still all over the place though. One day they are in 75' of water, the next they are thick in 170' of water. Good news for some is that they showed up at Breaking Rock yesterday for the first time (that I know of) and there were still some this morning.

There have been waves of "new" stripers coming to the mouth of the Merrimack! You can tell they are new by the sea lice still on them. Sea lice cannot tolerate brackish water and drop off so bass w/ little critters are new fish to our area. They seem to be mostly low to mid 20 inch fish but better fish are coming in too. I released a 38" fish the other day and I have heard of a few 40" fish taken.

There are starting to be some very nice surface feeds out front. Mostly small fish but a blast on light tackle!!

So after the winter that would not quit to the "non-spring", we finally are seeing summer and the fishing is definitely worth the time & effort!!

Good fishing
