When my crab apple tree blooms, great things happen in my fishing world!! Old wives tale you say, maybe, but think about it. If it is warm enough to encourage a tree to bloom, then the water temps would be rising also. Water temps are most effected by night time temperatures.
On May 4th I went fishing with my friend Paul on his boat. We caught our first fish of the year!! My two, 12" stripers might as well have been 40 inchers I was so happy!! They were in fact the first fish I had seen since October 17, 2016 and they were the earliest fish I've caught since I've been chartering!! Three days later, my apple tree is in full bloom and I caught a lot more fish. I had 6 caught & gently released before I had put one hour on my new motor!! My total count was 20 fish from 11"s to 14"s long. I'll be going out again this afternoon and I would not be surprised to catch & release 30+. The best part is that they will be slowly getting bigger. Soon I will be able to report fish in the mid twenty's!
If anyone reading this is looking to go out on a "tune-up" charter to catch a pile of schoolies, please give me a call!
