4 Jul 2015
Before I head out on one of my most important charters of the summer (my wife & friends) I wanted to wish everyone a safe 4th of July. I also want to say that the fishing has really kicked since my last report! Though I am still worried that I will break the string of luck by talking about it, the fishing is similar to 2013 with steady fishing & better bass! If you are not in my business, you will never know the stress of worrying you will not put your clients on good fish every day or that it will only be good for a short window within the charter! Having steady fishing in multiple locations through most of a trip just might keep the Rolaids in the pocket! I have had several keepers per trip with at least one big fish chance (never, ever tighten the drag after the captain has set it!) or fish caught per trip. It is nice to see what a 20# (scale weight/ not guestimate) striper looks like again!!
Mackerel are still the bait of choice. Early is the best time to find them and frankly some days you really need that network to zero in on them. Breaking Rock has been better but some days I but in 6-12 miles round trip to get good bait to keep my return clients happy.
If you are looking for your chance to hold a 20 pound striper, please call or email me. My calendar starts opening up after the 12th of July.
PS. I promise I will get 2015 photos posted soon!
