After the severe thunder storms on June 1st (no tornado's thankfully) the blistering wind on June 2nd and just plain wind on June 3rd the water temps on the ocean front dropped to 49 degrees! My first charter of the season (Saturday) struggled for a few fish and one keeper. But by Sunday the ocean calmed down, mackerel were available if you knew where to look and the better bass were in the river! After struggling the day before two guys landed 27 fish with 18 in the 30-31" range, I was a happy man! I can only imagine the total if the "circle hook learning curve" had not been so steep for my new friend Steve! He did pull when he should have just reeled tight a few times.
As of Tuesday 6-8-11 the outside water temps were back up to 55 and the mackerel really started showing again in numbers. Where there are macks, there are plenty of bass and the majority of the "big girls" should start showing any day now!!! Last season I my clients caught more bass over 40"s than in any other year and I do want to exceed that this year!
